Why Import Export Code ?

  • Without IEC, a person can not commence Export Import Business. IEC forms a primary document for recognition by Govt. of India as an Exporter/Importer.
  • For getting Incentives on Export from the government like Duty Drawbacks, MEIS License, SEIS License etc , firstly Exporter should get IEC.
  • For getting registration on International online Marketplaces like amazon.com , alibaba etc , IEC is required.
  • There is no need to file any periodical returns after getting IEC. It is just like PAN card In nutshell, If you want to unlock international market then you should get IEC first.

Documents/Details Required

While filing IEC application, some documents are required to be uploaded on DGFT Portal. Details in respect of entity and directors of entity are also required to be filled in the application. After verification (by DGFT) of all the documents/details uploaded, DGFT allot Import Export code.

Following documents/details are required :-

    • PAN Card of the entity
    • Primary Mobile number and E-mail ID ( OTP will be sent on Mobile number and E-mail ID provided by you)
    • Entity name and address
    • Nature of Concern ( Prop/LLP/Partnership firm/Private Limited/Public Limited/Govt. Undertaking/Section 25 Company/Registered Society/Trust/ HUF)
    • Preferred Activity (Merchant Exporter/Manufacturer exporter/Merchant cum manufacturer exporter/Service Provider/Merchant cum Service Provider/Manufacturer cum Service Provider/Merchant cum manufacturer cum service provider/others)
    • Bank A/C name
    • A/C Holder name
    • Bank name
    • Branch name
    • IFSC Code
    • CIN of the company
    • Name of the applicant
    • Designation
    • Applicant address
    • Applicant Mobile no.

In case address proof is not in the name of the applicant firm, NOC by the firm premises owner in favour of the firm along with the address proof (as PDF)

Is PAN Card mandatory for IEC?

Yes, PAN number is mandatory for getting IEC Code.

Whether more than one IEC can be issued against one PAN ?

Only one IEC would be issued against a single PAN number. In case of a more than one proprietorship firm belonging to one proprietor, they will be indicated as branch office of the first firm.
